Is paying online safe?

Yes. Your transaction will take place within a secure payment system, which means the transaction is encrypted between your PC and the council's payment service. This uses a technology called Secure Socket Layer (SSL), a standard supported by major internet browsers. All your personal and card details are protected by encryption, when transmitted over the Internet. Your card details are not stored by the Council, they are maintained by the Council's professional payment partner.

Processing your online payments

How will I know if my payment has been successful?

When you have finished entering your card details, and confirm you want to continue with the payment, there will be a short delay while your card details are validated. If your payment is successful, a receipt will be displayed which contains a transaction reference number. Please make a note of this number or use the print facility in case you need to contact us about your payment.

Credit card payments are subject to a surcharge of 1.65%.

Which cards can I use?

We accept most credit and debit cards with the exception of American Express, Diners' Club or JCB.

Which services can I pay for online?

You can pay your council tax, garden waste, business rates (NNDR) and invoices online using your debit or credit card.

The safest and most convenient way for you to pay is by Direct Debit. You save time and there are no cheques to write, no cash to pay, no posting letters, or queuing at counters. Payments are paid for you automatically by your bank or building society. And you can always be assured with Direct Debit that you are guaranteed an immediate refund in the unlikely event of a mistake being made.

You can pay your Council Tax by direct debit on either the 1st, 15th or 25th of the month, please telephone Revenues Services on 01653 600666. Please have your Council Tax account reference number and your bank account details to hand.

You may pay at any Post Office or retail outlet where you see the PayPoint symbol. You will need to take your bill with you as it has a unique barcode printed on the front. To find your nearest outlet, please visit allpay.

Pay by touch tone phone

The Touch Tone payments allows our customers to make payments 24/7 – 365 days a year using their phone.

Touch tone payments allow you to pay the following bills:

  • Council Tax
  • NNDR (Business Rates)
  • Sundry Invoices
  • Housing Benefit Overpayments
  • Garden Waste

You can pay by:

  • Debit card; or
  • Credit card.

Please note we are unable to accept American Express, Diners' Card, or JCB.

Scarborough Borough Council deal with all appeals and pursuance of Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) on behalf of Ryedale District Council.
