House to house collection licence

To carry out house-to-house collections for charitable purposes in England and Wales you need a licence from the local authority. Applications must be in the form prescribed by the local authority.

How long will it take to receive the licence?

Following receipt of the application form and any necessary attachments you can expect to hear from us normally within 28 days.

Tacit Consent applies: this means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from us by the end of the target period. If you have not heard from us within a reasonable period please contact us. You can do this online if you applied through the UK Welcomes service or use the contact details below.

Failed Application Redress

Please contact the local authority in the first instance.

You have the right to appeal to the Minister for the Cabinet Office.

Appeals must be lodged within 14 days of the refusal.

Licence Holder Redress

Please contact the Local Authority in the first instance.

You have the right to appeal to the Minister for the Cabinet Office.

Appeals must be lodged within 14 days of the decision.

Consumer Complaint

We would always advise that in the event of a complaint the first contact is made with the trader by you - preferably in the form a letter (with proof of delivery). If that has not worked, if you are located in the UK, Citizens advice consumer helpline will give you advice. From outside the UK contact the UK European Consumer Centre.
