Provision of advice on business continuity management in the event of a civil emergency to local businesses and voluntary organisations
Under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, local authorities are required to provide advice on business continuity management to local businesses and voluntary organisations.
Ryedale suffers from poor quality broadband throughout the District and it is a high priority of the Council to improve internet speeds to residents and businesses.
There are two main ways to get high speed broadband; through BT telephone wires (improving fibre connections to green roadside cabinets) and by wireless; a line of sight transmission from transmitter to a receiver on your property.
North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC), through the Connecting North Yorkshire Partnership, are administering Central Government funding to bring high quality broadband (>25Mbps) to as much of North Yorkshire as possible.
The details of this scheme are on the Superfast North Yorkshire. (SFNY) website. Log on to check if your postcode will get high speed fibre. BT are contracted to provide high speed to 90% of properties in North Yorkshire by December 2014.
For the remaining 10%, wireless technology can be employed.
We have three current wireless schemes in Ryedale.
- One serving the Farndale and Rosedale area Moorsweb.
- One service from Newton Upon Rawcliffe, serving the North York Moors and Vale of Pickering areas. Beeline. Broadband.
- One service from Castle Howard, serving the Howardian Hills area. I Love Broadband.
Accompanying the availability of high speed broadband is a business support package to enable businesses to maximise the opportunities it presents. Visit SFNY. or phone 0845 0020021 for further information.
