North Yorkshire Police state that creating safer neighbourhoods for every community in North Yorkshire and the City of York is their overarching priority, and is at the heart of everything they do.

The Safer Ryedale Partnership brings together representatives from responsible authorities, who under section 17 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 have a duty to exercise their functions to prevent crime and disorder in their area.
The Partnership has four priority action groups, these are Crime in the Community, Safer Roads, Domestic Abuse and Alcohol Harm Reduction.
